Hummer Service Parts
Cross Reference

SUGGESTION: A phone call to an auto parts store or Hummer dealer would really yield the best results. Most have their own cross-references and can not only tell you whether or not a part is available, but if they have it in stock.

Notices and Dislaimers:

  1. Verified indicates that usage of a part has been verified by a member of the Hummer Mailing List (HML) or The Diesel Page (DP).  If the part has not been verified, it indicates that the part number is listed by a manufacturer for use in the Hummer, or in a component installed in the Hummer.

Use of the term verified is not an endorsement of a product by the Hummer Mailing List, The Diesel Page or members thereof.

  2. References to parts identified by members of The Diesel Page are used with permission and courtesy of Jim Bigley, owner and copyright holder of the The Diesel Page at http://www.TheDieselPage.com.

  3. Products with additives that should not be used with diesel engines are not listed. An example of this would be an oil filter with PTFE (Teflon®), as the PTFE particles usually end up clogging the oil filter and/or lubrication pathways.

  4. When the same manufacturer is noted for different brand names, please be aware that the parts quality, performance and life span may differ.  Identification of manufacturers of the various brands is solely based on information publicly published by the manufacturers.

  5. Due to errors in manufacturers catalogs and product number changes, it is very strongly recommended that you verify the part number before obtaining the part.  Also, once you have obtained the part, check to ensure that it is correct part!

  6. All trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

  7. The collaters of this list can take no responsibility for the accuracy or use of the data contained within this list.

    Battery Requirements

    Table 5. Battery Requirements
      Diesel (×2) Gas
    BCI/OEM Group Size: 78 78
    CCA at -18°C/0°F: 770 825
    RC in Minutes: 115

    Notes:

    1. The battery requirements are as listed by AM General.

    2. CCA (Cold Cranking Amps). The Battery Council International (BCI) defines CCA as "the discharge load in amperes which a new fully charged battery at 0°F (-17.8°C) can continuously deliver for 30 seconds and maintain a terminal voltage equal to or higher than 1.20 volts per cell".

CCA is usually considered to be the primary consideration for battery capabilities. As listed by AM General, this should be considered as the minimum requirement for normal usage.

    3. RC (Reserve Capacity). The Battery Council International (BCI) defines Reserve Capacity as "the number of minutes a new fully charged battery at 80°F (26.7°C) can be continuously discharged at 25 amperes and maintain a terminal voltage equal to or higher than 1.75 volts per cell".

    4. The variant BCI or OEM Group Sizes are 34/78 (also noted as 78/34 in some reference, has both top and side posts) and 78U (top posts only). These sizes are generally not recommended.

Many of the Group 34/78 are not capable of full current flows through the side post terminals necessary for the winch. Also, some owners have reported interference between the top terminals and the battery hold down bracket.

    5. (OPTNOTE) The Optima batteries require modifications to the hold down bracket.

    6. (OPTNOAC) The Optima 800U battery (Red-Top or Starting battery) may only be used in applications that do not utilize an electric winch or have an vehicle accessory current draw of more than 10 amps. Otherwise, use a Yellow-Top or Deep-Cycle battery if you wish your battery to be under warranty.

    7. (OPTWNCH) Optima explicitly states in their User's Guide that high amperage accessories are not to be connected to the side terminals. Connections for the winch must be made using the top terminals only.

    8. Since the batteries are used in trucks over one-ton and/or with high-discharge rates (winches), most battery manufacturers will apply commercial use warranty restrictions (reduced warranty benefits).

    9. The following torque recommendations are normally made for battery connections:
      • SAE automotive terminal (top-post):  50-70 inch-lb.
      • Side terminal:  70 inch-lb.

    Oil Filters

The term "standard", as applied in this section, means that the filters have not been identified as, or ranked as, a "premium" filter. As such, some filters which are considered to be "premium" filters by either the manufacturer or consumer may be listed as "standard".
