Removing the Overhead Console

It's super easy:

  1. Remove cross piece that spans the width of the truck and goes over the driver and front passenger head rests. Just a few screws, nothing else holding it up.

  2. Remove trim piece that covers the front pillar between the two windshields. Again, nothing holding it in but screws.

  3. Remove remaining screws for overhead console. You'll note that there is a light in the overhead console so be careful when you pull it down off the ceiling, the wires will not let you drop the console all the way to the dash. You'll need to support it while you disconnect the overhead light wires. Just a couple of quick connects, no big deal.

Since you've never done this before, you're going to find that wherever two trim pieces meet, they stick together, sometimes quite strongly. Just gently work your fingers between the two trim pieces and gradually pry them apart. They will come apart, they are not glued, but you need to be careful so as not to break the edges off.

Removal shouldn't take more then 15 minutes, installation is the reverse. I found it helpful to get a bucket or small safety cone to prop up the rear part of the overhead console while installing/removing it and while working with the overhead light connection.
