Gauges - Bulb Replacement, Condensation:

My hummer speedo gauge has condensation in it. Is it possible to take it apart? Also, three gauges have red lights the other two have amber. Can they be changed?

The condensation is typical. It will go away if you leave the dash lights on full brightness for a while. You can actually reach in and change the speedo lamp by taking off the left bezel. It is tight to reach in but you can do it.

As far as the other gauges go just remove the 4 screws on the bezels for the 2 gauge sets on the left and right side of the dash. The bulbs pop out if the back of each gauge. You can get replacement lamps at Canadian tire. Get the clear ones.

The switches are a bit more complicated but again you can pop them out by compressing the tabs on the back. There is an incandescent bulb built into most of them and it can be accessed by carefully prying apart the center hinge point on the switch and removing the toggle. Be careful not to loose the spring or rocker arm. You can replace the lamp with a new 12V incandescent grain of wheat bulb. You can find one that is the right size at canadian tire but you will have to solder longer leads to it. The rubber caps that are on the bulbs in the switch (a green color) fit right over the Canadian tire lamp so aside from the leads it is an exact fit.

The switch has a tendency to pop apart when you try to reassemble it, so a bit of electrical grease in the spring hole sort of holds thing together when you snap the switch shut.
