Heat Shield Rattles:

If your heat shield rattles, take 2 large hose clamps and thread one into the other, then place the pair around the shield and cinch it up. 2 clamps are better than one for you have two areas to tighten and really torque it down. I did this and it lasted for 6+ years on my first truck.

Your vibration is caused by a combination of 2 things. The 6.5L has a problem with certain harmonic vibrations from the exhaust sound waves around idle and off idle in combination with the way the exhaust system is solidly attached to the frame and transfer case. All you have to do is have your dealer install exhaust hanger kit # 05744795, service bulletin 97-03-01. This kit worked so good on 96's that its used on all Hummers 97 and up. Crawl under a new one and take a look at the difference!
