Cold-Starting Modifications:

For those interested the following is the list of parts to modify the factory glow system for improved cold starting. All these parts where purchased from Peninsular Diesel, 248-960-5252. Talk to Kevin, he has been very helpful with my latest project.

  1. Beru AC60 Glow Plugs --- Pen. part # 6251502 $ 11.00 ea.

  2. 200 amp solenoid --- Pen. part # 2340160A $ 23.15

  3. Adjustable Timer --- No Pen. part # $ 40.00

I have not installed the timer and solenoid yet but have installed the glow plugs and the truck starts better with just these plugs. The AC11 plugs I had in the motor were new so it's not a matter of bad plugs. Even though my compression ratio is only 18:1 my truck started effortlessly this morning. Temps were in the low 40's. With an 18 second glow period the truck should start in all but sub zero weather conditions.
