Checking for a Blown Head Gasket:

A quick check for a blown head gasket:

Remove the water cross-over that contains the two thermostats and remove Serpentine belt. Stand back and have someone start the engine for maybe 5-10 seconds. A large amount of coolant will come flying out of the side that has the problem. Been there, done that. These 6.5 have been known to blow the gasket at the front of #2, or at the rear of #7 due to the stud configuration and proximity of the coolant passage therein.
