Testing the Fresh Air Cannister:

To test the fresh air canister:

  1. Remove both vacuum hoses from the EVAP canister purge solenoid, connect them together and tee in a vacuum gauge.

  2. Start the engine and let it idle (engine may stall until all of the fuel vapors are drawn out of the canister).

  3. Observe the vacuum gauge, if more than 16 in. Hg. of vacuum is indicated, then there is a restriction in the canister or the fresh hose.

  4. Inspect the fresh air hose for kinks/restrictions. If the fresh air hose is damaged the replace the hose.

  5. If the fresh air hose is not damaged then replace the canister.
